Finding Inspiration

Inspiration is vital to me. Without it my colouring pages turn into one great mess.
Sometimes I know immediately what I want to do with an art project.
The Secret Door from Johanna Basford's colouring book Secret Garden reminded me of that beautiful children's book The Secret Garden and I knew instantly where I wanted to go with this drawing.

But there are also times that I absolutely don't know where my art is going. Then inspiration turns out to be a process. The art project evolves while working on it.
If this is the case, I really take my time and although I continue working on the project, I do it slowly and try to make room for inspiration.

It can be very helpful to find examples of what you can do with your drawing, painting or other art project.
Pinterest is a great website to find inspiration. I made a lot of boards about cooking, decorating, art projects, colouring pages, gardening, and many more.
For colouring Secret Garden, I made a board with gates, doors, shady gardens, trails in the woods, etc.

Another great place to find inspiration for colouring Secret Garden, is Johanna Basford's website.
She recently launched a gallery where people can upload their drawings.

People upload their works of art and many of them mention the type of pencils and pens they used.
It is a great place to find inspiration and see what is possible!
It is very inspiring to see all the different things you can do with both Secret Garden and Enchanted Forest, Johanna's second book.

The amount of talent is just unbelievable! It is worth while taking a look at Johanna's website.

Thanks to Johanna Basford, colouring for adults is becoming more and more popular.
I already bought three copies of Secret Garden; one for myself, one for my sister-in-law and one for my niece. These books are great presents!
